5 Thrilling Hindi Movies Which Are Based On Real People Or Events

The past few years have seen a proliferation of Hindi movies that tell stories about real events or people. But, a small section of these films is also rich in thrills. This article is about 5 of such films, which you can find on ZEE5 Global.

Rustom (2016)

This Akshay Kumar-starrer is admittedly more of a fictionalized version of the infamous K.M Nanavati vs. The State Of Maharashtra case, which took the nation by storm in the late 1950’s. It tells the tale of Rustom Pavri (Kumar), a high-ranking Indian Naval officer who is seemingly in a happy marriage with Cynthia (Ileana D’Cruz). But, much to the surprise of Kumar’s character, he discovers love letters sent to Cynthia by a man other than him upon his return from London. Soon after the discovery, Rustom confronts and fatally shoots Cynthia’s lover, with whom he has a professional connection as well, which adds a further layer to the case. From this point on, a story full of confessions, court hearings, and supposed patriotism begins to unfold. To find out what happens, stream the film on ZEE5 Global right away!

Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran (2018)

This John Abraham-starrer tells the story of the days leading up to the event that would put India on the nuclear power map. Parmanu is the tale of India’s very first nuclear test in 1998, which took place on a barren piece of land in Pokhran, a village in the state of Rajasthan. Their main antagonist in the movie is the American satellite surveillance system, which maps every move of the Indian defense organizations from space. Many of the thrill induced moments of the film involve the core team behind the test attempting to make themselves invisible to the eyes of the American satellites. The film has an IMDb rating of 7.6/10.

Omerta (2018)

This Hansal Mehta directorial is a subtle character study of one of the most feared real-life extremists on Earth, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Rajkummar Rao can be seen essaying the infamous terrorist in a movie that explores Sheikh’s early years, his arms training at various fringe group camps, and then the headline-making murder of an American journalist. The movie received critical acclaim from several publications and business analysts but failed to make a box office splash due to its limited release. This film has a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb.

Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)

The fourth entry in the list of adrenaline-pumping Hindi movies that are based on real-life events is a saga about the 2016 Uri Surgical strike. Vicky Kaushal frontlines this film as Major Vihan Shergill, a character based on a real-life Indian army colonel, Kapil Yadav. The film tracks the planning process, the personal lives of the main characters, and the final execution of the strike that shook the nation. This movie became a surprise hit, ending its run at the Indian box office with a figure close to ₹250 crore.

The Kashmir Files (2022)

Vivek Agnihotri’s 2022 surprise blockbuster is a feature based on the infamous Kashmiri Pandit Exodus in the early 1990s. It takes a look at the atrocities endured by the members of the committee, the number of lives that were lost to the genocide, and the eventual abolishment of Article 370. This film is also available for streaming on ZEE5 Global.
